Designing Women: Season Two

Product Description
The staff of Sugarbaker and Associates returns as the sizzle and shake of the South in the second season of Designing Women.

Suzanne (Delta Burke), Julia (Dixie Carter), Mary Jo (Annie Potts) and Charlene (Jean Smart) bring their sexy, strong, smart and sweet Southern style to the Sugarbaker interior design firm. Personalities collide, power struggles ensue, egos are bruised: it is all in a days work. Having joined the women midway through the first season, Anthony Bouvier (Meshach Taylor) continues on as a series regular and part of the Sugarbaker team as the ex-con with a heart of gold turned male sounding board. This second season also offers the delightful, and now regular, presence of the ‘just a little off the beam’ feisty widow Bernice Clifton (Alice Ghostley). Guest stars include Gerald McRaney (who would later go on to wed Delta Burke in real life), Scott Bakula and Billy Baldwin.

Created by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, Designing Women aired on CBS from 1986 to 1993, running seven seasons strong. A perfect marriage of smart and funny, the series achieved critical acclaim through its run and remains one of the most groundbreaking series to ever hit the airwaves.

  • We all know Designing Women is a brilliant sitcom that was ahead of its time and is long overdue with its DVD releases. It handles heavy subject matters like religion, sex, and racism with wit and sensitivity, and the characters are beginning to fill out more and really come into their own during this second season. But as far as the actual production itself, season 2 strikes me as “off” for reasons I can’t quite put my finger on. I think it has something to do with the studio audience’s complete indifference to what’s going on in front of them. That’s not to say the one-liners and comedic that made the show such a fan favorite aren’t present here, because they are, but it’s painfully obvious when a line is delivered that was clearly supposed to get a laugh and fails, and the actors have that “oh crap, we’re tanking” look on their faces. I don’t understand this, because even in season 2 the writing is top-notch and I want to laugh at it, but it’s feels awkward being the only one.

I grew up watching this show I bought the first season and was so excited when they released the second season. Designing Women is one of my all time favorite tv shows ever. The chemistry between the cast is great. My favorite epiosode in this season is Dash Goff the writer but I think that is because I really like Gerald McRaney. I only hope they release season three just as quickly. Watch Designing Women!

I have been waiting for this to come out for a long time. I am a big Lewis Grizzard fan and really enjoyed

that episode. This was one of my alltime favorite shows because Southerners were finally shown as intelligent, gracious, caring human beings. In most other TV-movie situations, we are shown as evil, obnoxious, ignorant, incestous cretins. Thank you, Linda Bloodworth-Thomas, et al.

  • The Second Season of Designing Women is top notch. and correct me if I am wrong but I believe Linda Bloodworth-Thomason wrote every single episode of this season!

We’ve all seen the shows, and these are uncut and I didn’t seem to notice any music changes on this season, in fact I was shocked that so many songs were used and intact!

I hope all Designing Women fans rush to buy this shows esp the second season, You won’t be let down. The show holds up so well. Good comedy never ages.
